Raven + Lilly – empowering women through design

I’m loving my new jute bag and recycled cotton journal from Raven + Lilly. Most of you have probably heard of this brand, but maybe you haven’t. I hadn’t heard of them until recently, and I was very impressed with their story.

Raven + Lilly is a store that sells handmade jewelry, apparel, accessories and gifts. The company was created to alleviate poverty among women. According to their Website, the company employs over 1,500 women at fair wages in order to help break the cycle of poverty for them and their families. The company lists these countries on their Website as those they work with: Ethiopia, India, Cambodia, Kenya, USA, Guatemala, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Haiti.

The products they make are absolutely gorgeous and unique. They are handmade and honor the Raven + Lilly eco-friendly standards. There are two ways to purchase products from Raven + Lilly. You can shop their Online store, which I did, or you can visit their many store fronts across the United States, or World for that matter.

The Jute bag I ordered was handmade in India and came with this description: “Our partnership in India that produces these bags helps women who have been rescued from the sex trade gain dignity, with sustainable fair trade work.” Just awesome! I love what this company is doing for women world-wide.

The founder, Kristen Dickerson, graduated from Baylor University, right here in Texas. She actually lives close to Austin in Bastrop county and promotes her retreat style space called Green Acres. I checked out the Website, and think I may try to visit soon! It is described as a “Boutique Retreat Space for Artists, Families, and Sojourners.” It boasts two “Glamping Style Yurts” for accommodations. Being the “glamping” connoisseur that I am, I think I need to try this place out. (pictures to follow of course!)
