“One day they actually became real” – Goosebumps

Love the idea behind this movie! Growing up I remember reading all of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series. Have you read them? In this movie Jack Black plays R.L. Stine and the monsters from his books come to life.
The movie is really cute. It carries a good plot line with many twists and clever ideas. The monster animation is incredible. It’s neat to see all of the monsters from the books come to life. My favorite are the lawn gnomes which are actually very creepy. Slappy the dummy is the lead monster and his revenge on R.L. Stine is personal. Very creepy little dummy.
The casting is excellent. Dylan Minnette is such a cutie and plays an excellent hero aside Jack Black. Ryan Lee’s character provides the comic relief and I found myself laughing out loud mostly at his quirky personality.
We debated taking the kids to see this movie; ages eight, seven, and five. I was worried it may be too scary for the five year old. After seeing it, without the kids, I think it may be too scary for all of them. I know it’s only rated PG, but it was pretty scary. The monsters don’t actually hurt anyone, but the visual effects and storyline make the movie intense. I think it would be appropriate for kids over the age of at least ten. If you have older children I would highly recommend taking them to see it. If not, maybe watch it at home when it hits Pay-Per-View.
Have you seen this movie yet? What did you think? Scary or not scary?
My kids loved this movie… Highly recommend!
I loved it too! I think I’ll let my younger ones watch it at home on the small screen. A little less terrifying for them. Thanks for your comment, and for following the blog!
