We didn’t rush to see Christopher Robin. I wasn’t entirely intrigued enough by the previews to want to see this movie, and I have never been a huge Winnie the Poo fan. However, my ten year old son begged and begged to see this movie. He loves puppets and wanted to see the animation of Winnie the Poo and his friends. We finally went to see the movie last weekend, and…

my instincts were correct. This is one you do not need to feel bad about missing.

Christopher Robin — now a family man living in London — receives a surprise visit from his old childhood pal, Winnie-the-Pooh. With Christopher’s help, Pooh embarks on a journey to find his friends — Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Piglet, Rabbit, Kanga and Roo. Once reunited, the lovable bear and the gang travel to the big city to help Christopher rediscover the joy of life.

The biggest thing wrong with this movie is the timing and flow. The first hour you might as well fall asleep. The movie builds for SO LONG with NO action, only back story and conflict building. FINALLY at the end of the movie, you get a little action, but then more and more and more conflict. I think all the action takes place in the last twenty minutes of the movie. Even my kids picked up on this asking me why they made a movie that way. If you need to use the restroom, go in the first hour, you won’t miss anything.

The slow timing of this movie makes it nearly impossible to keep children’s attention. My boys were chattering most of the time. My eleven year old kept asking me what time it was and when we could leave.

There were a few things I did like, however, and I should mention those. The Hundred Acre Wood is a very magical place, and I love how they introduce children to a slower time where kids can play in nature and enjoy being outside with their imagination having wild adventures. Poo and his gang are lovable creatures and their shenanigans cause a couple laugh out loud moments.

I also really enjoyed the message of the film, to not work so hard that you miss your life passing you bye.

Overall, I wouldn’t rush to see this one. Maybe rent it on pay-per-view when your bored on a Sunday afternoon. There is nothing inappropriate for kids. Maybe play it during nap time 😉
