“Is there an emoji for good grief?” – The Peanuts Movie

Charlie Brown and the gang are back in this cute new movie, The Peanuts Movie. I grew up watching Charlie Brown as a kid, however my children really haven’t seen much of the Peanuts gang. This new movie attempts to modernize the Charlie Brown I knew, while also maintaining the classic charm of the older classics.

The movie resonates around Charlie Brown’s attempt to whew the new girl in class, The Girl with the Red Hair. He’s tired of making mistakes, being clumsy, and looking like a fool. His efforts are continually spoiled, of course, and his classic “woe is me” bit is absolutely relevant. Will he win the new girl’s attention?

We took our children to see this movie, ages 8, 7, and 5. I was a little worried they would not understand the context having never watched Charlie Brown. During the beginning of the movie they began to grow a little restless. After all, Charlie Brown has always lacked the action packed humorous plots of the new movies. Luckily, Snoopy came to the rescue! There is an action adventure side plot in the movie. Snoopy and Woodstock have an amazing flying adventure to rescue Fifi, a cute poodle that Snoopy can’t help but falling for.

Surprisingly, The Peanuts Movie was entertaining. There were even some adult laugh out loud moments. I enjoyed the plots and the messages in the movie. Especially the ending. My kids loved it! I would definitely recommend this movie for a family movie day. Have you seen it yet? What did you think?
