“Did you miss me?” – Goosebumps 2 Haunted Halloween

Goosebumps 2 We took the whole family to see the new Goosebumps 2 Haunted Halloween movie on my birthday Sunday. We were nervous to take the kids because the first Goosebumps movie was pretty scary.

My three kids, ages 7-11, agreed that since it was Mom’s birthday, they would brave the movie because they new seeing a movie on my birthday was the best idea ever.

If you haven’t heard of Goosebumps 2 Haunted Halloween, here is the synopsis from the Web:

While collecting junk one day, best friends Sonny and Sam meet Slappy, a mischievous talking dummy from an unpublished “Goosebumps” book by R.L. Stine. Hoping to start his own family, Slappy kidnaps Sonny’s mother and brings all of his ghoulish friends back to life — just in time for Halloween. As the sleepy town becomes overrun with monsters, witches and other mysterious creatures, Sonny joins forces with his sister, Sam and a kindly neighbor to save Sonny’s mom and foil Slappy’s plan.

This movie surprised us ALL. Compared to the first Goosebumps, it is soooo less spooky! My kids were not scared one bit, instead they laughed and laughed. The series and Goosebump characters are the same as the original, however I believe this movie is meant for a younger audience.

All of the Halloween decorations come to life, and the special effects are outstanding. Very fun to watch the Halloween spirit come to life!

The funny neighborhood over-decorator is Ken Jeong, and he is hilarious, providing comic relief and bringing belly laughs to the whole theater.

Jack Black makes an appearance toward the end of the movie. The whole cast is great!

I think this movie is a perfect Halloween movie for kids at any age. There is nothing dark or inappropriate. The scary parts are funny, and yes can be a bit jumpy, but nothing too over the top. The message is to face your fears so that you realize what is most important in your life. The writing is simple and easily understood by younger movie goers.

This would be a great movie to watch every Halloween as a fun, family movie night.

The end of the movie provides a glimpse of more Goosebumps films, perhaps staring Jack Black, or maybe even a Christmas Goosebumps movie. I am sure we will be seeing more in this series.

So take your kids to see Goosebumps 2 Haunted Halloween and have a family fun spooky night at the movie theater! Maybe even wear your costumes for a night they will never forget!
