“I do need just a simple favor.” – A Simple Favor

When I saw the previews of this movie, I was very excited. I LOVE Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. The movie appeared to be a suspenseful, modern, thriller including a mom vlogger and her best friend who goes missing. It seemed mysterious and exciting and I couldn’t wait to see it!

In case you haven’t seen the trailer, here is the synopisis from the Web:

A SIMPLE FAVOR, directed by Paul Feig, centers around Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily’s (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance from their small town.

This movie was created from the novel, A Simple Favor, authored by Darcy Bell in March of 2017.

Now, after seeing the movie, I’m not sure what I saw…I don’t know if I saw a comedy like Bad Moms, or a thriller like Gone Girl. I think it was a mix of BOTH.

I couldn’t tell if this was a comedy or a thriller – but I guess it was supposed to be like both, a new genre of film perhaps? I think that was the point, just not what I was expecting from the viewing the trailer.

I was definitely not expecting the over-exaggerated mom comedy of the “mommy homeroom vlogger,” which is Anna Kendrick’s character. Anna Kendrick is hilarious in any role that calls for comedy, and she nailed this role perfectly, I’m just not sure how it fit in this movie.

Now don’t get me wrong, the comedic scripting was freaking hilarious and all of the Mom’s in the audience were busting up laughing. Really-really funny!

And the thriller part of the movie was intense at times, I even jumped a little in my seat, but it was hard to take it seriously because I didn’t know if it was supposed to be scary or funny.

The movie was not lacking in plot twists. There are almost too many, I mean how many times can you spin this movie? By the end you just want it to finish and are hoping there won’t be any more turns in the plot because they wouldn’t make sense.

So, if I sound confused, it’s because I am. This movie confused me. However here are a few things you can for sure expect:

One – This is a total girl flick with emphasis on mommy-hood.

Two – It’s hilarious.

Three – It’s not a crazy psychological thriller – its more Bad Moms comedy meets a crazy plot twisted roller coaster.

Also Blake Lively is drop dead gorgeous and it should be a crime to look that good!

I like A Simple Favor for a girls-date with friends. Save your date night movie for something else, maybe Predator or Crazy Rich Asians.
