Your true colors are beautiful – Trolls

We finally made it to the theater to see Trolls! My family and I have been anxiously waiting to see this movie for months. We took our children, ages 9, 8, and 6 to see this super cute movie, and let me just say, it did not disappoint!

**Synopsis from the Website: After the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy (Anna Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born, and the overly-cautious, curmudgeonly Branch (Justin Timberlake) set off on a journey to rescue her friends. Their mission is full of adventure and mishaps, as this mismatched duo try to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done.

The Trolls are the happiest little creatures in the world. All they do is sing and dance and hug, and then sing and dance and hug. When the large Bergens eat a Troll, they find true happiness too, otherwise they cannot be happy at all. But the Trolls, not wanting to be eaten, have other plans for the Bergens. Branch, played by Justin Timberlake, is the only Troll who refuses to be happy. He doesn’t sing, dance, or hug, and he’s prepared to battle Bergens at any cost. But Poppy, played by Anna Kendrick, refuses to be defeated and wishes true happiness for everyone, including Branch and the Begens.

I loved this movie for so many reasons. One, the Trolls are super sweet, funny, and happy. Their musical numbers are thoroughly entertaining. The sound track is great and my kids loved the music as well. The animation is a little psychedelic at times and the colors in the movie are bright and fun.

Two, the movie portrays messages that are important to everyone. The message that spoke to me the most is that with everything bad in the world, it’s so easy to be unhappy, weighed down, and scared. But if you live that way you will never be truly happy and you miss out on all of the good things life has to offer. Another message in the movie is that everyone has happiness inside them, sometimes you just need someone to help bring it out in you. My eight year old said he learned to give everyone a chance and to not judge people. And finally, you should always be yourself and let your true colors shine through.

This movie isn’t really scary, so don’t worry about the little ones. My six year old daughter was a little nervous at the beginning of the movie. I wouldn’t say she was scared, just concerned the Trolls were going to be eaten by the Bergens. They are large and a little intimidating. The movie kept the attention of my three children. We all laughed out loud and were dancing in our seats. My eight and nine year old boys gave the movie a one million out of ten. We all loved it!

I would definitely recommend taking the family to see Trolls. Especially during all of the election drama and uncertainty in the news. This feel good movie will make everyone smile and see the better part of life 🙂
