“I am Mowgli, and this is my home!” – The Jungle Book

Disney’s The Jungle Book released today and we couldn’t wait to see it. The previews looked amazing!

We all remember the story of the boy who grew up in the Jungle with his friends. Mowgli, the boy, wants to live with the animals despite the dangers in the jungle. His friends are Baloo, the bear, and also Bagheera the panther. Mowgli must leave the jungle when Shere Kahn, a vicious tiger, wants revenge on mankind by killing Mowgli.

This movie is shot beautifully! The special effects are outstanding. The animals are completely lifelike. You are captivated right from the opening scene into a story packed with action and adventure. Never a dull moment.

We took our children, ages five, eight, and nine to see the movie. The movie previews warn that there are scenes that may be a little scary for younger kids. And there most certainly are! My eight and nine year olds were fine. However, my five year old daughter cried and wanted to leave at some points. King Louis is big and terrifying and Shere Kahn has really big teeth!

The animal fighting scenes look like they were taken right out of National Geographic, minus the blood and torn flesh. Although the entire movie was a bit action filled and intense, I would say it’s ok for the little ones to experience it. It’s truly an amazing film. It’s not too long either and the ending is really good! Once we got through the ending, my five year old was fine and happy.

My nine year old ranked it a 7 out of 10, and my eight year old (and husband) said 10 out of 10. I loved it too! This is definitely one for the theatre, maybe even see it in 3D.
